    EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.....
Drain 4 OZ of Gear lube on each Differential into an specimen bottle. Have it Analyzed...for Oil temperature quemical Breakdown and metal particles. VERY IMPORTANT. After receiving results ....follow next step. (I went thru the same situation back in 1998, with my 1996 KW T600.)

Omg .... you just caused the engine to have a shorter life by millions of miles, you have to get it into a shop and have them put a new engine in it NOW!

Seriously, I had a driver who left both of them on for a month, we could not find any issues with it and that truck ran more than 650k after it happened without axle issues. Don't sweat it, learn how it works and just remember to make it part of your post emergency driving checklist.

Come to think of it, I did have a problem with my front differential, but I didn’t make the connection to when I accidently left on the inter axle. They did some work on my front differential. The cost must have been around 3k. I was lucky the big fleet I used to work for managed to get it covered under some kind of warranty.

OK, gang...just clarifying things. Your power divider was made to shift on the fly. You do not have to stop to engage the power divider (the power divider engages both drive axles)
@D.Tibbitt said wheels aren't spinning...what he's referring to is how if you start losing traction, one side of one axle will start spinning faster than the other side of the same axle. The simplest way to make absolutely sure that this isn't happening when you engage the power divider is lift your foot off the throttle. That doesn't mean that you have to come to a stop. Let off the gas pedal for a sec and switch it on, than back on the gas. No harm and you will have a light come on the dash showing the axles in green. Everything is good. If you accidentally leave it on, nothing is harmed. Turn it off and keep on truckin.

edit: BTW, if you are on an incline on icy roads an come to a complete stop to engage your power divider, you messed up. You'd better either know how to throw on tire chains or call a wrecker. And I sure as hell hope that you didn't do this in the travel lane (COMMON ROOKIE MISTAKE!)

Six, I am wondering if anyone knows what these two things really are. I got this impression that people think that the power divider is made to be used only a little bit and that's it, while many are clueless to what a diff lock is and when it is needed.

Unless it's a heavy spec'd 3 axle (common in Canada, but rare in the USA), odds are against it having lockers. They're more than likely referring to the power divider.

Don't listen to this guy, all you have to do now is back up for 125 miles and everything will return to normal.
