Stile is right, if you like doing things on your own, being a team driver might not be for you? I run with a team driver for 6 years but luckily, we mostly liked the same things, of course we did have our issues now and then. Looking back though, I enjoyed running with him tremendously. He was a great fellow.

    I vaguely recall the story.

I was more fortunate, in that I was not the driver on duty. A point I drove home when they started questioning me about it. Then they claimed he was driving, but that I was spotting him and backed him into the trailer, so I asked how I could spot anyone when I was asleep and the accident woke me up (the driver whose trailer he hit verified that I exited the truck after the accident)

Even if you have a spotter, the responsibility for backing safely rests with the person on duty. I never asked/allowed my 2nd seat to spot for me; I didn't trust them.

You're exactly right, the one driving the vehicle is responsible for the safe operation of the vehicle. I was always like you, I did my own backing, even if I had to get out of the truck several times to see where I was backing.

When I heard it was team drivers only and no pets I crossed CC off the list. I don't want to entrust my safety to a total stranger. I prefer to go solo at a place that will allow me to have my little road warrior dog with me.

That's my point; you stated it more clearly. For someone in her situation, Carolina Cargo is the better choice.

Truck drivers make roughly the same amount as a good high school teacher. We work lots more hours of course. However a teacher has to have a four year degree and then do a student teacher stint. They have to pay for that out of their pocket which ends up being about $30,000 in debt. Working two years and being paid cheap at .10 per mile is a better deal by far.

My point is, the principle is still the same today as it was back then. I was happy to have the job and made it work for me in the big picture. I had two choices, work for that trucking company or work in a dog food factory. Looking long term, the best decision for me was to start at poverty wages with the trucking company because I knew that would only last a few months, but the dog food factory would be like flipping burgers for a career.

I though your plans were to retire in the Philippines, not Korea.

That's where the future USED to be! I was an IT tech for over a decade. If a computer breaks, throw it out because its cheaper than getting it fixed. If it can be done remotely send it over seas because its cheaper. The majority of IT work is done by under paid newbs and the lucky few (admins) who do the least of all, still get paid well. But even many companies are having entire networks administered remotely (overseas) now. The future of computers is more work, less pay.
