OK I’m getting ready to redo the injector cups and reset the valves and the injectors. I’m trying to figure out exactly what I have here. Maybe these pictures will help I don’t know if it’s a 350 or 400. Please advise if you can.
Judging by the markings and the gray paint over the original Cummins paint, I believe she’s been restored, but not sure.

???
Also I can’t get engine to turn over by using socket and cheater pipe at all but can bump it with starter?!
Why is this? Is there a compression release somewhere?
also engine serial number locations would be very helpful no data plate does have Cummins Custom Registry but can’t find help on this

Well first off… look on the left side of the block just above the oil pan gasket, is the words BIG CAM casted in the block, be right in front of the starter.
2nd, should be a tag on top of the fuel pump, will have your fuel calibration code on it. A good pump shop can use those numbers to tell you what horsepower it is calibrated for…..MACK E-6, Binderdavemays1, 201 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Seen that before…. Good possibility a rod or main bearing is trying to lock up. Freind called few weeks ago wanted me to come look at a Cummins in an old Autocar dumptruck, engine would crank but slow like the batteries were weak.
Has his mechanic get me a 3/4” rachet and 1 5/16” socket, I’m 250 lbs and couldn’t budge the engine. They found a rod bearing trying to gauled to the crankshaft….BoxCarKidd, Oxbow, MACK E-6 and 2 others Thank this. -
The engine in that truck had lots of diesel fuel in the oilpan….
Oxbow and Binderdavemays1 Thank this. -
I had antifreeze in oil think it was injector cup leaking but not sure
I did have truck running from pull starting it
I’m not sure what my first move here is
Except to clean cups and try to restart itOxbow and OLDSKOOLERnWV Thank this. -
Well… if you’re getting antifreeze on top the piston, at some point you’re going to end up with hydrostatic lock, and at that point you’re going to bend a connecting rod most likely.
Had antifreeze in my oil a while back, was fortunate enough to get it home about 60 miles away. Found #3 liner Oring had failed letting the antifreeze drop straight in the oilpan.
Should be able to pull the injectors and look on top the pistons for evidence of antifreeze while doing a pressure test on the cooling system…..MACK E-6, Binderdavemays1 and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
So if there’s antifreeze on pistons I need a In frame done?
Did you see pics above?
Not sure what motor I haveOLDSKOOLERnWV Thanks this. -
I plan on pulling heads and cleaning cups and pressure testing tomorrow
