i've never personally done this (friends have), but usually you can give them your SS# and they will pull your license if it was just left at home (unless there is some funky state law out there I am not aware of, then I apologize for assuming). Even if you did get a ticket (for just leaving it at home) bring it to court with you and they'll drop the charges (same with an insurance card)(I have friends who have had to do this several times).. Now, was it just left at home or were you under suspension for something?

I have been pulled over 2 times and didnt have my license on me. Every time the cops asked me for birth date, adress, name first & last, and asks if i know my license # never had a problem or gotten a ticket for it.

Well, I have gotten busted for no license on person. As a woman, went out to the clubs, shoved license in back pocket and then didn't have it on me the next day.
I was given a ticket that and had ten days to show my license and the ticket to any LEO, they signed the ticket and I sent it in and that was that. If i didn't get it signed I would have to show up to court and show it and pay court costs.
Now, there is a difference between driving with no license and driving with no license on person. When I was stopped the officer verified I had a license with my name, address and ss number on his radio.
Was your ticket for no license on person or no licence period? -
In New York, unlicensed operation and not having you license with you are separate tickets. If you are licensed, and the cop feels like giving you a break, you get the ticket for unlicensed operation. Then, when you go to court and show your license the ticket can be dismissed. However, the ticket for not having the license on you will stick. I found that out the hard way.
