Thanks again Tuckerndfw. I'll definitely keep my expectations low and the miles high (as I can), when I join up with you fellow truckers spinning them wheels under the night's sky!!!

Tuckerndfw......speak's volume's about this industry and he is not wrong. Dude you are cracking me up
. Keeping it Real! LOL X 10
Only true wisdom comes from pain. (ancient chinese proverb). Believe that when it come's to starting out in this profession.
I'm going start a new thread: Old timer's>Story's on how you got started.
That ought to be a hoot!Chauncestanbul Thanks this. -
Thanks, X10.
No pain, no gain. . .
The fact is I've been around this business my entire life. My mother used to go with my dad when she was pregnant with me, so I've been riding in trucks since before I was born.
I've truly forgotten more than I remember (thankfully), but the things I remember seem to be all pretty much bad, especially as related to actually driving a truck.
But, like being in love with an abusive spouse, I still love it and can't think of anything I'd rather do.
One has to be a masochistic before he can truly enjoy driving a truck. . .
I'll try to think of something to add to your new thread and if I can't actually remember the details, I'll just pretend it's my log book and make it up. . .
Chauncestanbul Thanks this. -
I went to Tdi in Sanford, Fl class of 96'. They are pretty good people there and to this day if I ever need anything(including physicals) they hook me up. As for companies to drive for, swift, england, central they are all fairly comparable. Choose the one you think best fits your needs. Mind your business pay attention be patient and put in your time(one year) once you have experience then decide what you want to do from there. Keep your cdl clean, and run legal. If you are patient and professional with these companies it will get you a long way. Just remember what they have to deal with day in and day out. They see and have heard it all. Go out of your way to please them and you will reap the rewards, piss them off and your driving experience wont be so pleasant. Keep in mind too, that the first 3-6 months are going to be a totally different lifestyle, so grin and bear it and you will win. Good luck!
BigKahunaFL and Chauncestanbul Thank this. -
They have a program called WIA and they can often pay for your truck schooling that is what I did I did not have to pay for anything including my hazmat background check.
Those funds vary from state to state but most of the time they will pay for the whole thing.Chauncestanbul Thanks this. -
Don't want to sound like I'm plugging any school, but, my wife went to NBI in Winter Haven, Fl. so she could team with me. Make sure whatever school you go to is state certified and gives a 160 hr. course. Most companies want this minimum. Good Luck,
