Ok, I'm only getting 1.5-4.2V across the backs of those switches. Things must just be too rusty and corroded I'm thinking.
-
It's a good possibility since the whole system is 12V. The battery arc was enough to finish the poor connection off. Look at the grounds too.
EDIT: Wow, I just looked at that picture. Yeah they are extremely corroded. Take those wires off and clean them up the best you can. If you have some dielectric grease available smear some on the connections after clean up. That will help stop future corrosion. Is that suppose to be a water tight box? Bad gasket? Figure out how to seal it... silicone?Exbreadguy and Big Don Thank this. -
Yeah it's pretty incredible it was working fine a few months ago in that condition. The box was missing one of the screws that held it in place, and the top screw just popped out because it was so stripped. I don't think it even had a gasket either. Just some old canvass type stuff shoved in there which probably doesn't help much in the Pacific NW. I'll get some silicone for it once I get it cleaned out.
Can't thank you enough for your insight. Should be able to get this fixed tomorrow so it can go back to work.CondoCruiser Thanks this. -
Please let us know how you come out with this!

Quick thanks to you and Big Don. Really helped some NASA scientists figure out why their liftgate wasn’t working on a field truck without having to lose a day stuck in the shop
wasn’t the exact issue as described but it got us looking at the right things.
