This thread need to be shut down. I've never seen so mush dis-information and mal-information in my time here on TTR. Looking at all the odd incidents that happen on the road lately with big trucks, it's all starting to make sense now.

It appears much of the posting is meant to be offered as "advice" but it's hard to tell what is presented as advice and what is intended as sarcasm or just being facetious

Jakes or not...and its already been mentioned....you should be at least one gear below the LOWEST gear you were in when climbing in the hill...then jus relax&ease down the other side....as you build rpms.....Gently apply brakes to drop r's back down&repeat......Slow&steady....dont wait till your rpms get close to overrev.....
Take your time relax.....the bottom will Still b there when you get there......
And w/All the different answers&opinions on this......one thing has NEVER&WILL NEVER CHANGE......You can go down a hill too SLOW forever...But you only get to go down too fast ONCE......

Does make me wonder though what things would be like....if some of y'all had to drive nowadays w/no jakes&single action brakes.....:)

From what I can tell by reading these posts, is that new drivers are being taught how to drive a big truck by people with no real world experience-out of a book no less.
Most of the questions are common sense, just too bad you can't teach that!!

I feel sorry for these new drivers that don't have an experienced driver to not only teach how to drive but also the rules of the road.

I think that's why most of them burn out quickly, end up dead or badly injured in a crash. So sad.

Prostar with maxforce jake brakes are most effective between 1800-2000 rpm. This with a proper gear choice will get you down any hill.
