You have all the info and it sounds comparable to what I have heard. The percentage pay part sounds like O/O unless they are doing some type of pay per load stuff. I know they have some of that in Florida. The only thing I find hard to believe is the 60K per year running local. $16.00 X 70hrs X 52weeks = $58,200. I don't believe local drivers get time and a half overtime pay. I doubt you would be allowed to or want to work that much. Per load pay in NJ would suck. You will run legal. The entire fleet is going to electronic logs this year.
I prefer OTR and try to take at least 104 complete days off each calendar year. They have been really good to work with but that is terminal specific and boils down to the terminal manager where you are. We have a bunch of out and back runs from High Point.
You also get 2 weeks vacation at 1 year with SPCR. I imagine its the same at Carry. A vacation week pays me around $800 which is a little less than my weekly average.
Help me make a decision that might affect me and my families life

Try this! Time and a half after 8hr's. Sat. time and a half whether you have 40 in or not. Sun. double time. Fully paid benefits, you don't pay dime one. I've watched those food guys work, they're are moving ,but they aren't killing themselves. Once you learn the ins and outs it will get easier. Who cares about traffic, you are on the clock. When i worked in the city i was Mr.Right Hand lane. Mr. Speed Limit! Nobody #####ed at me about my hours. You put your time in you will move up the board. Hey Already Gone i'm going back to that city job as soon as the weather breaks. Never should of left.

good for you, admiral!
I dont know what kind of shape you are in, HOP, but food service is not that bad. I mean, its the kind of job that if you are out of shape, it will either get you IN shape, but its not "back breaking". if its back breaking, you are doing it wrong. and like you said, you only have to use a liftgate and run it to the curb. try running it down a ramp with worn teeth and no griptape in the winter! now that gets a little hairy!
And yes, I have ran NYC, I used to be into NYC about once a week for LJ Kennedy, I know, the traffic is slow, but its not that bad. besides, you would be on the clock at 24 an hour, if your stuck in traffic, YOU ARE STILL ON THE CLOCK AT 24 AN HOUR. on % pay, the faster you go, the more you make. but if you get stuck in traffic? or there is a snowstorm? you take a pay cut. That sucks. Besides, at the Mcdonalds job, there is going to be an 8 hour guarauntee every day you work. You would be making 192, every day, for sure, in 8 hours. running local for a tanker outfit that does not pay by the hour, and does not have ot? you will be working 14 hours for that same 190-200 a day.
the choice is all yours, and i understand that you haven't read anything bad about carry, but have you read anything bad about the mcdonalds job? have you talked to any of their drivers about how the job is, and how it is when you start out at the bottom? -
But this is all speculation. I don't know exactly how much a run would cost Rob you would have a better Idea Than myself.

I'm going to offer up one other general piece of advice...take it for what it's worth:
Quit trying to micromanage this decision to death. NO MATTER WHAT JOB YOU PICK, you will second-guess yourself for one reason or another. Believe me, I recognize the symptoms!
The longer you take to decide, and the more minutia you study based on each job trying to find the PERFECT job, the more you'll be disappointed when it turns out not to be perfect, merely adequate. -

LoL no one is looking for the perfect job what job is perfect? unless your tung kissing angelina jolie while your the star of a up-coming flick
Do you think your job is perfect are you content on where you are working at? Do you hate your job when you wake up in the morning?
Do you find your job proactive, and fun? See when I get into something I try to make it as a hobby not only as a job, I want to enjoy what I do and get paid for it. You seem like your desperate that I am not, Desperation makes people pick wrong choices in life, I rather walk threw it like a boat floating on-top of water with ease.
check this thread out that was posted not to long ago http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...s-the-inside-scoop/50641-mbm-foodservice.html
Now you find me a thread similar to that for Carry.Last edited: Apr 24, 2011

Don't get your panties in a bunch, Younger man? Who is younger you or I? I am 27 years old young. The advice I was seeking basically was if anyone has ever worked for these companies before, not second guessing. If that was the case I would second guess myself, and close my eyes pick just what ever job I would first go to set up a interview with. Your trying to help yet failing to do a break down on why I shouldn't go to such job there is no ultimatum here to justify why Carry or HR would be the wrong choice the only thing I am seeing here is a pattern of union job take it and run there are companies out there that do treat you good, and just because there is a union stamp across a job doesn't necessarily mean it is going to be the best job. I use to work for the Union back in 2002 as a Drillers apprentice. I quit that job due to political BullCrap. Do I really want to get into that subject again?
But hold your head, and thank you for trying to give some feedback, even though there was no justification being said. -
