No they dont charge more. I think you can do up to like 240 hours. Maybe its there pricing because some companies want you to have 160 and some want more. I do know they always stress safety at all times.

Nope they care about what kind of drivers they put out. And you can see the pride in everyone's eyes that works there when student's come back and say hi. This is such and such he works for this.company he graduated from here. Almost like they were their parent lol

Biggest question to consider is do you want to team drive or not? CRST that is all you will be doing. If you dont May is your answer. I would check out Crete Carriers.

I can answer for May only. I drove for 3.5 years and trained 2 years for them.

May does both New York and New Jersey. I never went into NYC.

No APU. But they allow a 2000 watt inverter bought through he company.

May will tell you what route to take and where to fuel. No deviations.

They say if the road is open, go. I told my DM multiple times I wasn't comfortable chaining to go 200 miles on ice or with only 5000 in the box.

Layovers were infrequent at times and other times it seemed like every trip. They do pay detention, but you have to jump through hoops.

Breakdowns are handled by macros. They have three shops and do all routine work themselves.

Excessive idling, over 45% in summer, can result in a charge to the driver. Use the idle request and you won't get charged.

May will micromanage you. That's how they are setup.

I just quit May, It was my first Job. They have a good training program. Normaly with a trainer for 3 weeks. Trainer has to be awake and in the passenger seat while you drive. You dont run as team when driving. The pay is not terriable for you 1st 6 months. 30 cents a mile. After 6 months it doesnt go up much. The tractors are awsome, 587 petes mostly some Freightliners and some prostars. Overall my experience with May was good. But needed to go get a better paying gig. So going to Flatbeds. I
With May if you run 48 you will be hauling reefer, 11 western is mostly Dry Van.
The Bad, is May does not have APUs. and they frown upon idling. In the summer you can idle up to 45% winter is only 10% if you go over that they may charge you for the extra if you dont get an exemption from you DM. again I enjoyed May for the most part but they are a a company that is for new truckers. You do get good training though

There's only like thousands of posts on both of these companies here on this forum. Those postings weren't enough to help you decide or answer the specifics of the questions you listed? ;-)

Lol @ pigeon #### hauler. Would you mind elaborating on what happened on the grade? I'm going to start training soon, and just trying to learn as much as possible.

I drive for CRST and it's really not as bad as people make it out to be. They do have some solo jobs but they are few and far between. I'm on a Caterpillar dedicated account and go from Morton, Il to Spokane, Wa, I spent all winter going back and forth and only chained once but it wasn't so bad. The few times I had to shut down due to weather I just sent a message telling them why I was shutting down and gave them an eta to when I would be rolling again, no big thing. My codriver and I generally get about 7000-7200 miles a week and when we have problems with the truck or loads we work together with our dispatcher to get the situation taken care of. I have heard all the stories and rumors about CRST but as with any job it is what you make of it.
