I currently make 8 dollars an hour working 40 hours a week. And that's what a 14 year old felony and a very competitive market with no jobs will do for ya. I take home like 295 after taxes. Don't mind California at all, as my son lives there and I hardly ever get to see him(I'm in Texas and his moms parents are filthy rich, so zero chance I win that court battle!). Even the off chance of being stuck with a busted truck in Orange County, or getting the experience that will even open the door just a crack at a better company, I'm all for it. I'm mostly just concerned that, being out of Carolinas and not being one of the major companies with terminals everywhere, I would have to relocate. I can't afford that on my salary now and definitely not on. Carolina salary.

My only real hope is that I can have a success story like @amiller had with them and get headhunted by a better paying company when I get the experience.

Paying for CDL school is problematic right now as well, because it looks like none of the company schools will take me in(because why put that skin in the game if you won't hire me right?)

Thing is, I did have a family friend tell me to get some experience and go flat bed if I can, then he will get me on with his company and put me in his truck until I can lease or buy my own if that is the route I want to take.

I guess I could always just study and then go take the CDL test. Getting my foot in the door at this point is the problem, and by that, I mean the door of a school lol

They are strictly a second chance company to get some incident free time in.

I wonder how the OP knows what evil is in this industry?

It seems until you get involved in a company that craps on you, listening to others may not be prudent thing to do.

    Just saying ...

So go with one that accepts you and trains you and get on the road.

It's the only company who is likely to hire me right now, or should I say, when I can afford to obtain my cdl out of pocket. Once I have proven I can handle otr and get a lot of miles in, hopefully that will open some doors with better(bigger or smaller doesn't matter) companies that pay decently.

There was a dude here who started at Carolina Cargo with a similar problem as mine and posted his journey with them week to week including miles and pay, and within 2 months he was making .37cpm with another company, pulling almost 50k net that year.

I hope to take that path myself. I've been through more injustice and heartache and ######## in my life than any second rate trucking company can throw at me.

At this point I am basically homeless and live in a shack, making 8 dollars an hour. Working for Carolina may be a lateral move, if anything, but I'm considering them more for the experience than the advancement opportunities with them.

Got God on my side. I will be fine either way.

I see what your saying. Be prepared for harsh times at that rate if you go for it. The way stuff happens some days you may only get 200-350 miles a day. And that will be a full day including cheating your log book. That's $20-$35 dollars gross for the day. Subtract your expenses for being on the road. Your gonna owe them money on pay day. I know you say it's a stepping stone but there has to be a better alternative. Good luck partner I hope it works out for you. Sincerely.

I forgot to mention. Do not mention your current financial state in detail. If they are blood suckers they will take advantage of that.
