IMO yes, it is poor. When you look and see that the tires on both the truck and trailer are high RR not a nice set of bridgestones or Michelin and the speed that the brick of a truck travels at yes it is poor. Also its pulling a reefer and it does not have a roof fairing or wing! With low RR tires all around(steers are good yokohama with 98 for RR) and slowing down to 60-62 I bet that truck could get 6.2-6.5MPG. I would put a roof fairing or wing on the truck because I don't like the way they look but with one of those I bet you could see high 6s out of the truck if you drive it correctly!
Rough guideline: 55mph vs 65mph: +20% (OTR -- will not be anywhere near this with 30-mile trips) Low RR super singles vs lugged duals: +5% tag axle: +3% direct drive: +2.5% 120psi tire inflation vs 100: +1% 1200rpm vs 1400rpm: +0.6% Remove 320lb: +0.1%
how can this help? if I go in 12 and run at 1400 its at 54 mph I consider this a hazard I do run 57 or 60
what wrong with whats under the hood ? I wont air tires it would waste to much time and loose a load a day not worth it. Some one said it and I agree I would like to add change things on my tractor since trailers aren't mine and its not worth investing . I might invest in a fleet air filter any other things?
Actualy my rate is pretty good fuel is $4 for a gal my fuel expence is 33-36 % of my gross so unless that is cheap from my understanding its avg from my fellow owner ops. The reason I ask about my mpg is I recently started listeing and reading some post around forums and drivers claim these amazing mpg. So if I could cut my fuel cost it would be great, im really happy with my cost to operate but any good business owner is always looking for lower expences.
Do you have a boost gauge? If so drive in 13th at the lowest psi within reason. Probably will be 59-61mph
Very few expenses do you really have much control over....Maybe your paying yourself too much.....TIC
yeah I have a boost gauge try to keep in under 8psi and between those mph. I guess for the work im doing its good mpg then I was just wanted to make sure I didn't leave any money on the table.
