Submit an application anyway. They will probably offer you a job. If they have online application, submit it.
Many companies websites have "experience required" but still hire new CDL grads. I think Freymiller website has "6 months experience required", but yet they recruit from CDL schools.

A bit of advice. Don't worry abut the state and taxes, you've got a lot of time and even then it is not bad when you get a good CPA.

I don't think it has anything to do with nostalgia, i think the Rand Mcnally is still relevant and useful. The OP had lots of questions and i was trying to help him settle down and get back to focusing on the basics that would be important in his immediate future.
When my wife took her CDL road exam at 50 yrs young(and passed first try) i was there for support. There was a picnic table out front where students from varying schools were waiting to test. I was swarmed with students asking questions that should have been covered in there school. Some had already spent hundreds of dollars on GPS and other gadgets, some had plans of buying new trucks or leasing trucks and hitting the road as a paid tourist. I asked them who knew North,South,East,West or how the interstate highways are numbered, for example East-West interstate highways are even numbered,North-South interstate highways are odd numbered, not one of them could answer. I told them go to Walmart and buy a paper Rand Mcnally and study. Some of the students actually took notes and were still asking questions when my wife returned with a big smile on her face. Sorry I think i rambled and got way off topic.

Let's not forget how crammed city streets can be also. My GPS goes hay wire in Boston, and NYC.

My Rand McNally has also been my mini desk over the steering wheel. In the early 90s some Truck stops had that giant clip board that would fit over the steering wheel, always wanted one of those. The days when the cab lights were dim and your trying to fill out a days logs over the steering wheel.

good point :D Yes it seems impossible

Schnieder offers money for both team members if we start with them, but per mile pay is very low
