Live updates: Multiple deaths reported after tornadoes, severe storms strike America's Heartland | WEATHER WIRE
~ @Navjot
Don't dwell on the negatives. Every state has its share of bad weather. Just focus on taking care of your family in a nice area they and you can enjoy and have a decent job.
As for Birmingham, I lived in Bessemer for a few months, which is a suburb of Birmingham. Very stressful place to live. Lots of crime, car thefts, stealing and the place just stinks along with mosquitos and bugs. -
You definitely have to be extra careful about moving somewhere new in the South if you've never lived near the area before. Local governments, businesses and realtors are bad about marketing communities based on what they were 20 years before.
A good rule of thumb is to avoid incoporated cities altogether, at least at first. Once you've lived there a little while, you'll get a better feel for what areas locals are shifting to. Property taxes are also helpful. If a county is charging above the state average, and if a large portion of it is directly earmarked for schools, that's a tell-tale sign to look elsewhere.Chinatown Thanks this. -

@Navjot
You have time to prepare to purchase a home. Interest rates and home prices are dropping, so you need to prepare to buy one when you have the down payment ready.
Move to a location where you prefer to live and then rent until you're financially prepared to buy a home.
Move to a state with no state income taxes. -
Nevada seems better than Texas cause in Texas property taxes are high but in Nevada no income tax and low property taxes. But housing is still expensive af compared to texas. Might consider Nevada if prices correct more
-
In San Antonio despite being a city and huge population houses are cheap af even some good ones under 200k but 3-4k in property taxesChinatown Thanks this.

Find a cheap place to rent in Nevada, then start preparing your future.
Plenty of jobs available for your family members, in Nevada.
