Axles 2 and 5 must be 36 feet apart, assuming that the drives and trailer axles are closed tandems (three axle tractor, two axle trailer, no spread).

With a belly dump you wouldn't have to make any changes to your hydraulic system.

Notice: The Federal Bridge Law (FBL) and Federal Bridge Formula (FBF) apply to all interstate and federal highways across the nation, and many states have adopted them state-wide. We'll often refer to these federal regulations as simply "FBL" or "FBF".
    Indiana Vehicle Weight Limits
Quick Summary / Synopsis for Dump Trucks
Indiana has adopted the FBF state-wide, but continues to also allow trucks to weigh in compliance with the old state laws. Because the old state laws allow a 5-axle dump truck to weigh 73,280 lbs, regardless of axle spacing, effectively the FBF is used only when the truck weighs more than 73,280 lbs. Additionally, Indiana has a special exemption in place for any vehicles actively engaged in highway construction (like a dump truck hauling asphalt), which exempts the truck from all weight limits.

    Recommendations
A 7-axle Super Dump can weigh 80,000 lbs all over Indiana. This exceeds the 73,280 lbs allowed by the older state provision by about 3.5 Tons. However, for those hauling asphalt only, and only on state and local roads, it doesn't matter, due to the special exemption. So whether a Super Dump is beneficial to you in Indiana depends on what you're hauling, and whether you use interstates regularly.
