I hope for her sake that she didn't book a load wider than 12 ft. Pilot cars can suck the money out of a load really quick.

Do you run your own authority or lease to a carrier? If you lease to someone, they may have someone at your company to handle permits. I do a lot of over sized loads. I order some myself, but also have a permit service. They give me a good rate and since some states charge $9 to use a credit card, it isn't much more to just call the permit service and let them do everything. Fees can vary. Some permit services charge as much as $35 for each permit ordered. Using a good permit service gives you an additional source to call concerning laws and regulations on those states in which you plan on running. I have some loads that we have been running and the number of permits and escorts will change with each load. Making a single phone call can help. OOIDA won't be as familiar with over sized regulations as a service that deals with them on a daily basis. They will likely refer you to a service. If you need another name for permits let me know and I will pm you with one that we use. Fees will vary from one service to another.

I would make sure to have a good tape measure with you if you plan on hauling oversized loads. I NEVER order permits until I or one of my drivers actually measures the load. I have had to reorder permits on two loads because the dimensions were not correct from the shipper. It is also a good idea to add a couple of inches to the load when ordering, just in case you don't measure correctly.

Aww, run on Sunday no permits needed, and run at night when the scales are closed. Keep the CB turned up and talk to the locals. This also works for HazMat and overloaded loads too. But if that doesn't work for ya, The Permit Company.com out of CA will work :biggrin_25525:
