I will be a bit more specific.

If Quebec ever mandates it since they are about the only one that does speak french, I would not hesitate removing it from the atlas.

You'd hate Cali then....CDL tests are given in Spanish with "interpreters" to assist....
Back in '05 I had to take the written at Norco DMV.....

While waiting in line to give the clerk my completed tests...I overheard an "interpreter" giving answers to a driver in Spanish....

Oh well....We in Cali brought this sheyat on ourselves for electing the idiots in SAC who allow this to happen......:biggrin_2552:

As of January 1, 2011, California no longer offers the CDL test in Spanish. You must take and pass it in English with no assistance of an interpreter.

    Yea...I was shocked,too!

To pass the road test portion of the CDL DPE
you must make no more than 30 errors and have
no Critical Driving Errors (CDE), which will
result in an automatic failure. All directions for
the road test maneuvers will be given in the
English language. This is pursuant to Federal
    Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations
    §§391.11 (b) (2) and 383.133 (c) (5). If
you are unable to understand the directions
given in the English language three times, the
test will be counted as a failure.

It seems to me that all states should only offer the CDL in English since it is mandated by the feds.

At one time there was a scandal in a couple of states about examiners issuing CDL's to those who may not have been qualified. I wonder if some of these immigrants who don't speak English are some of those who went through some of those states?

    That's good to see....

I renewed the CDL in '10 but, because I was a good boy for the last decade....The DMV just had me sign some docs and send them in snail mail.......I don't set foot in a DMV unless I absolutely have to......I'd rather go get a root canal done than stand in line and wait at the DMV.....:biggrin_2552:

Speaking of qualified....When I took my driving test back in the stone-age....The DMV examiners did not have CDL's......Uh...That's a bit ironic is it not?.....Well maybe not....We have morons in the FMCSA and NTSB who think they know more than we as Professional Drivers do, about our jobs..... :biggrin_25523:

When I first started driving all I had was a regular drivers license. When I found out that I needed a chauffeur's license I had to get my employer to sign a form that I needed the license for my work. I handed it to the DMV and they gave me my chauffeur's license. I don't think that I had to take a driving test. If I did it was in a 4 wheeler. For you youngsters, before the CDL we had chauffeur's license. We had two classes in my state. Chauffeur's and special chauffeur's license. I had the special chauffeur's so that I could drive a semi (18 wheeler). The regular chauffeur's was for those wanting to drive a taxi. I have more than 4 million accident free miles behind me. So much for needing to go to driving school in order to be a safe driver. :biggrin_25525:

Back when I got my chauffeur's license I feel certain that the examiner's didn't have a commercial license. I am not sure that most even knew what they were. I drove a truck for over a year before I found out that I needed a commercial license. We used to ridge motorcycles and drive anything that we wanted with a regular drivers license.

Yep, these bureaucrats and special interest groups like PATT, CRASH, fmcsa, etc., think they know how to keep us all safe, but none have even sat in a drivers seat or probably even looked inside a truck. I don't know how in the world I could have amassed over 4 million miles before they came on the scene and made roads so much safer. :biggrin_25513:

The OP never said he disagreed with the regulation. No one has said they disagree with the regulation. It may actually be the one regulation we ALL agree with! :biggrin_2559:
