Today a car came speeding up flicking me off trying to get me to pull over. Their windshield was cracked. Nothing major thank god. I didn’t see it happen but I have no reason to think he’s lying.
so I stopped at the next rest stop and we talked. We exchanged info but I didn’t get his number. Wish I had.
My dispatcher told me to file a claim for when their insurance calls and now I’m kind of freaking out. Is this going on my MVR as an accident?
I wish I got his number. I would have just paid him cash for the windshield to avoid any BS with my record or insurance. I would like to be an owner op in the near future and I take great pride in my spotless record.
Please advise.
Help please. Ice from trailer cracked a car windshield.

Windshields are very expensive these days. Some have to be programmed to the car computer.
Just take a photo of his car and license plate.

The car driver can take your cash, then file with his insurance company and get another payoff.
He can say someone threw a rock or ice fell from a tree limb.austinmike, buddyd157 and John Joel Glanton Thank this. -
It shouldn't. It's more of an act of nature. You didn't cause it.

Jan 28, 2022 · It’s surprisingly easy to damage your windshield. One piece of gravel when you’re driving behind a truck on the highway is all it takes. For a relatively everyday occurrence, most of us would be pretty surprised to get the repair bill. …

Thanks guys.
It’s a sunny 40 degree day and the trailer looks spotless. I have a pic of the windshield and plate but I didn’t get his number. Happened so quick.
I am scared to get my company claims involved. I don’t want some BS “accident” on my record then I get a higher insurance rate when I go out on my own. I am never sloppy or negligent. I take this career very serious. A $200 windshield could end up costing me thousands with a higher insurance rate. Feeling discouraged right now.
Ah well. I suppose it’s in Gods hands. 150 miles to go. Check back later. -
No law enforcement was called it shouldn't affect your MVR. It's a road hazard like rocks being thrown by tires.

If dump trucks aren’t responsible for rocks flying out of their beds because they are too lazy to spend ten seconds unrolling a tarp, then you should be just fine.

One of the largest scams against truckers is this "you cracked my windshield". You have no idea what it was that hit that vehicle, or for that matter if you did at all. I went through this for the final time back in 2011. I had a guy follow me in a Truckstop and tell me a rock from my truck busted his windshield. I said road hazards are NOT my responsibility and walked away. Yes, in some cases they will call the cops. However, they have to prove it was you. Then they have to prove IT FELL OFF your vehicle. When facing this in the future ignore them.

I am not sure about ice on the roof but a couple of years ago I had a car tailgating me and there were some low hanging branches near my yard that I always caught with the trailer. They followed me into our yard and went in and told my office staff that I knocked branches down and cracked their windshield.
The office staff gave them our insurance information.
I asked later if we where responsible, the lady who deals with the insurance said she talked to our agent and said we were not responsible for tree limbs falling on their car. They would have to file a claim with their own insurance.
But on the other hand my sister was driving to work one morning and a large chunk of ice slid off the roof of a passing work van and totally shattered her windshield. She was lucky not to wreck, she got pulled off safely on the shoulder but the car was undrivable.
A good Samaritan saw what happened and flagged down the work van and told the driver what happened. He came back to the scene and contacted his company. The owners wife comes out and offers to tow my sister's car to the shop for a new windshield and offers my sister a rental car until hers is fixed. She didn't want to go thru insurance and my sister agrees.
The owners wife drove my sister to the rental car agency to rent her a car, but my sister was too young so the owners wife took the rental and let my sister drive her Lexus. And I think they gave her some extra cash for her lost day of work.LtlAnonymous, Magoo1968, Texas_hwy_287 and 8 others Thank this.
