It’s not me saying so and I wasn’t trying to be a smart ### but the confusion can be laid squarely on the CDL Manual that states issue stated until a couple of years ago 60 psi because Part 121 states 60psi. Both FMCSR (393.51) and the North American Standard OOS Criteria states 55 psi as both a violation and OOS. Most state CDL Manuals have now been corrected to say 55 psi.

393.51 (2) A warning signal that is audible or visible to a person in the normal driving position and provides a continuous warning to the driver whenever the air pressure in the service reservoir system is at 379 kPa (55 psi) and below, or one-half of the compressor governor cutout pressure, whichever is less.

It is good that you corrected me and informed the public. I always was under impression that the inspectors are waiting for the buzzer to chime and all these years thought that if the sound does not work they could mark it on the DOT inspection report, if not put me OOS. I am kind of relieved now...Also thought that it must be right 60 PSI that the warning must go off...now I know better.

I have a truck with no buzzer, when I get close to 60 lbs I point out, to the inspector, the warning light above the visor that lights. I've been inspected a couple times where they didn't catch it and we had to re-air the truck to prove it because they were listening for a buzzer. Now I just point it out.
