So I replaced the carrier bearing in the parking lot of the rest area while NY state patrol was doing dot inspections around me. They left me alone. The trooper in charge nodded in approval when he saw me, a pretty small guy only 5ft7" 170lbs hoist that driveshaft back up in place and bolt it up. Replaced the oil pressure sensor as well while they watched. Ended up breaking off the line going from the air compressor to the air governor with my elbow. Had to get a new fitting so there I sat overnight waiting. Got up next morning troopers doing DOTs again and same trooper was there. He asked me if I didn't get it fixxed yet. Showed him the fitting and told him a friend was coming to get me to go get a new fitting. He laughed. Went got fitting. Put everything together in about 5 mins including bolting the fender back up. Started the truck up and let it warm up. Everything good to go. Trooper complimented me on my speed and how I policed the area for anything I might have left behind and told me safe travels. Today started out pretty good.

That's a good ending to the breakdown story!
How many miles did you have when it let go?

The original factory bearing had 500k miles on it and was still going. This bearing I got from the Volvo dealer in Kentucky only lasted maybe 120k miles. Im wondering if something is wrong with my Ujoints or drive shaft. Im going to have the output bearing on my trans and input bearing on my power divider checked for damage from where that shaft was flopping around.

Over the years probably put in about 5-6 of these in my medium duty trucks up to 26,000GVW.
I keep one of the cheapo jacks that has a longer length to the saddle, and some 8X8 blocks on the truck.
Comes in handy putting all that back in place - and to hold it, (by yourself,) - to start the bolts.
Last time, of course, on the road without it, I used a ratchet strap.

Wow, that's short. My truck just turned 2 750 000 km. I bought the truck as a 5 year old lease return. The front drive shaft is untouched so far with the original U-joints and the pilot bearing. At least I didn't touch or replace them yet.

If its not broken. Leave them alone. I have learned my leason. There was nothing wrong with the factory bearing at 500k miles. I only changed it cuz I had the drive shaft out to be cut shorter for my transmission swap.
