My general rule of thumb is the closer the vehicle behind me gets, the slower I go. I don't have time to sit on the side of the road filling out insurance paperwork and crash reports because the fool behind me didn't have time to react when I had to stop. So, the less room you leave behind me, the more space I leave in front of me. Want me to drive the speed limit? Back off & maintain a proper following distance, and I'll maintain my safe following distance behind the vehicle in front of me...unless they are speeding, in which case I'll do the posted speed limit.
Complain about it over the CB, and my speed decreases even more....and it'll stay there until we get through the work zone whether you back off or not. I'm not in THAT big of a hurry.

I agree,slow the heck down thru construction zones.If you're pressed for time,the solution to that is quit stopping so much.I usually go a few miles below the speed incase an officer is lurking around and his toy gun is'nt calibrated like it should be.

No excuse, YOU saw the signs, end of story. The Good part, all there was, was Money out of your wallet. Hard way to learn about rules, but there for a reason.
As the operator of a rig, you follow the rules. -
some work zones have posted limits 24-7, some when active, or workers present, and some when lights are working. be good injun and drive by sign or pay to play

pattyj , does chicken coop, inspections count? Cali Inspection Mechs, used to carry a 9/16 in their back pocket, and back off trailer brakes, you get a fine. Does that count?

I have'nt had an inspection since the CSA and not at all bragging just saying.But I have had quite a few before that and never got fined but my companies have.Now everything is the driver and company.I do think many of the laws are about as stupid as they get pertaining ONLY to the the trucking industry and many officers are nit pickers'But no driver should be delibrately braking the law just to make money or make your company happy because companies could care less.The minute you put your foot down you are looked down by your dispatcher and company.I do no favors for any company.With the laws as strict as they are,why play russian rullette with your CDL,is it worth it?I think not.I have'nt been to Calif but only a few times and that was yrs ago.I do know though that state hates trks and will inspect you till they find something wrong.It's not right I know but there's nothing you can do about it.You won't win in the court of law either.

Ever since I got a speed ticket in a work zone not to long ago, I have become public nuisance # 1 ! It seems like I'm in everybodies way , virtually everybody is such in a big hurry. So am I,but I'm going to give any trooper the pleasure of writing me another speeding ticket if I can help it. I have slowed way down since then.
