I would be calling 911 once you hit 15 under. You are impeding traffic and a road obstruction.

You are putting me in danger as well as the people behind me so that you can satisfy your own personal need.

You have created a traffic pile up that should not have occurred.

I agree. There's safety and common sense involved here. Slowing to spite someone is something different and may in fact further instigate them.

(Although, by slowing, if the tailgater hits you it won't be as severe.)

I'm not slowing out of spite, I'm slowing to increase my following distance from the vehicle in front of me, I'm slowing to allow more opportunities for the jackhat tailgater to pass, and I'm slowing to keep their windshield out of my DOT bumper should I need to brake quickly to avoid hitting something. Don't like it? Then back off and all will be right with the world again.

I will not let someone else (the person behind me) drive my truck.

Call 911 on me when i drive in 75+MPH states cuz I can only do 60.

Come on, they won't do anything about it.

HP: hello, 911, what's you emergency?

You: yes, there's a truck in the right lane who's doing 15 under the speed limit and impeding traffic.

HP: sir this line is for emergencies only. Since this is a non emergency ill give you the number to the local authorities.

That's pretty much what would happen, why on earth would they send someone out? Cuz your tailgating that makes the other person unsafe?

I'm sure the guy is talking about when someone tailgates you to intimidate you to go faster even though there's an open lane next to him/her.

I'm really thinking more in terms of situations where there is only one lane in the given direction. But even in a multi-lane scenario such as the one you give, I'm only going to slow so much.

You get into a construction zone, you don't NEED 1/2 mile of buffer zone and to do 35 mph because some jackwagon is tailgatting.

If you are paying THAT much attention to what's happening behind you in the mirror, then you sure all heck are not paying attention to what is really happening in front of you.

If you dynamite your brakes for whatever reason. If he hits you, it's his ### not yours that is going to have to explain to Johnny Law why he was 20 feet off your bumper.

I have an email in to the TZD coordinator for the state of MN DOT. "why are trucks ticketed for following too closely yet I can sit in traffic on the 494/694 loop all day long and watch cars 20 feet off a trucks bumper and never get ticketed as they drive by a state trooper?"

Her response was to forward my email to a LT with the MN state patrol. 5 days later, I have not heard back from him yet despite her request to answer me directly.

Last year I applied for the Toward Zero Death position in one of the out-state districts. That is how I know about the program.
