Yep your wright. The back of your trailer is pretty much arbitrary or useless as a guide. Only use the rear trailer tandem as a guide. Only thing you got to think about in regards to back of trailer as mentioned several times above is tail swing. Pivoting the rear of your trailer on your blind side and smashing something is very easy for newer or even more experienced drivers as the big ace hole in the side of my truck caused by a driver supposedly I think 8 years experience put in my truck when he was parking next to me.
Have to, have to pay attention to your tail swing on your blind side, you are not sure about it, get off your ace and look. Really ruin somebody's day or night by punching a big hole in there truck or trailer because you were not thinking about how the tail of your trailer would pivot or swing to the blind side and slam into something or somebody.

My older bro was playing 18-wheeler game on PC for awhile then when i let him to back in the truck(alley dock) he did it with no problem. and he never drove a truck. I played that game and its the same as in reality..Turn ur wheel left, trailer goes right. When i was in school my first days i coundt figured out which way to turn and end up jacknife. After playing taht game u get the idea. Helpful tool.

I put a 53ft. in a spot before. Dispatch calls me 2 hours later, and says they cant get it out of the door I put it in. It was on the end, Inside warehouse. Took me a little bit to get it in there, but did it. Had to blind side in an area where the length of the tractor and trailer were extremly tight.

what libtard is running this site? -
Ha! I did exactly that during my training. Was having a little trouble with 45 degree backing, and wanted to get it right every time with only one pull up. Got a 1:32 model toy truck, played with it on the kitchen table for awhile to get a 'feel' for how the nose of the trailer determines how it will swing. Went out the next day and did much better!
Remember that you're steering the trailer with the kingpin, not with the tractor's steer axle. -
Of course you'd use the back of the trailer as reference to line up with the dock. How else would you know if you're too far left or too far right? You can't tell that by watching the wheels. Plus how would you know how close you are to the dock? Can't judge that by looking at the wheels.
Maybe I'm interpreting this wrong. -
My school starts on the 18th, and i had'nt thought of it that way. I back a 22' flat-deck car trailer daily with my pickup, but figured the 53' would be different. The physics i understand completly, but i have never backed something that long. I have run heavy loads in the military, but never that long. Also i have been hearing alot of fella's complaining that the kingpin restrictions and tandem restrictions can come into play while backing...any insight? -
the longer the trailer the slower it will react when backing -
Takes a bit longer to respond im sure, and having the tandems so far back the mechanics will be a bit off im sure as well. Just good to hear that i wont be starting from scratch on that aspect of it.
