I think you will need a plan for Canada or it will be roaming. look up your plan and it should say or at least a number to call and ask.
-
As a rule, prepaid phones won't roam. If you are going to Ontario, and you have an Android phone, you can install Skype, and use it over wifi, which both the major truck stop chains in Ontario have for free. Skype will let you call 800 numbers, if you want to call regular numbers, you have to pay them, but it's only $2.95 a month. That's the solution I use up there with my Virgin Mobile phone. I was just in Winnipeg this week though, and that didn't quite work out for me, since there really isn't a lot up there outside the city of Winnipeg besides dirt roads and trees.

What are the two major truck stop chains in Ontario?
-
My only guess is Husky, which I guess some of their locations have free wifi, but certainly not Dryden, Petro Pass which some locations have it, but you have to pay for it...
We all know about the Flying J Wi Fi (joke)...
Please enlighten us to where the free wifi is at truck stops is in Ontario, because I have not found it....
My cell phone barely works between Kenora and Sault Ste Marie.... never mind internet! -
The Fifth Wheel and Husky both have free wifi. At the Fifth Wheel you have to go to the fuel desk and ask, they will give you a slip of paper with a password. The Husky I went to, in Mississauga, had service inside, but the signal wasn't usable from the parking lot. Also the truck stop just before the Buffalo crossing, or the first one if you're coming north on the QEW has free wifi. And of course, there is the Flying J and TA up there, but they aren't free.

My cell phone doesn't work at all up there. Skype is the only way I could make call. The payphones up there have credit card slots..don't fall for it! I made four calls on one of those and my debit card got dinged for $9.50 for each call. #### near $40 for 4 frickin phone calls. That was in Manitoba. Good luck finding a truck stop up there north of Winnipeg where they sent me, let alone one with wifi.
