I have never had a problem with plastic and as far as polish you might just want to buy you a polisher and spend one saturday doing it your self some places charge a pretty penny to polish it had one guy quote me around $2K to do my truck and trailer

There's nothing wrong with good plastic. Get the Alcoa covers. Never broke one yet.
Definitely hit the aluminum. Watch someone else do it to get an idea of what your in for. 6,000 rpm grinder and starched wheels work the best. Personally, I would consider ripping the tanks with a DA first if they're pitted bad from road rash. At least have BB burn them with acid to get as much oxidation out as possible.

of course it does you know better than that.....in the outlaw truckers handbook page 1 in BOLD print......in order to go fast one must have a shiny truck.....that way the radar guns get confused and think they are tracking a plane:biggrin_25523:

It's nice to see you want to take pride in what you drive. After the acid bath and caps check out http://metalwax.com/BigRigTrucks.asp It really works. I like to keep everything I own or whatever someone else has trusted in my care polished to a mirror shine. If you ever get near Ludington MI and have a few hours to kill shoot me a PM, We could turn those tanks/Alcoas into blinders in no time. Not to mention an unkept/run down truck is more likely to be pulled/inspected than a well kept clean truck.
