On pads or lease roads that are really muddy or submerged under water, then having an automatic is a bit of a hindrance, but that's only every once in a while. Pulling heavy stuck equipment like frac pumps, crane trucks, or loaded tankers is annoying but doable. I've run drilling mud in an automatic and never had a problem with it. The only time I've ever preferred using a manual is on rainy nights where I know almost every lease road is going to be messed up the entire shift.
