PawPaw, we ran team. Very, very rarely could we ever not reschedule or deliver early or drop in a drop yard. I try to tell drivers, this is how you make the big miles! Never, ever stretch out a trip to the allotted time frame on the load. At the absolute worst their still going to take you 30 min early right? So get it there! If you can't deliver then you are already there. Now you can take a break, do some laundry, shower, whatever at the nearest truck stop. Hey, bring some donuts with you to your delivery! Donuts often got me a door early! Donuts also make friends and the next time you show up they tend to remember you!

You said that you get there early and all you do is burn up time? Well you're burning up time taking your time getting there! Why not do it for the chance to make more money? The guys on the dock are scratchin their heads right now because they just had a cancellation and could have unloaded you a day early.... Happens quite frequently.

You can benefit in a lot of other ways too! Say you put the pedal down and get there asap and the receiver is going to put you on stand by to unload you. While you are there a big winter storm comes across the country! Had you been piddlin along you would have had to drive through that! Now you are kickin back, resting at the receiver with a hot cup of coffee while everyone else is stuck out in the snow and are late for the appointments! Now guess what? You are first in line to get a load because everyone else still has to get unloaded.

Anyway not necessarily aiming at you PawPaw I'm just throwing out some different situations to others and you just happened to be an example of how a lot of drivers think. You know your deal and it may not be possible to always do this, however in most cases it is possible and guys are losing out on a lot of money and miles.

Over the Christmas break I drafted one of our other drivers to run Landstar/UPS loads during our slow period.Picked up in Vernon CA Sunday early like 1am and delivered to Dallas by 23:00, schduled for tueday 8 am, They imediately gave us a LA bound preload because another driver had not checked in. Joe (my co=driver) ended up with 3 complete rounds, the other teams from our company only got 2 rounds each, because of a lack of hustle, thats was an extra 635.00 bucks for the week.

    CasinoGal Thanks this.

Well I appreciate you're not picking on me ! LOL !
Our runs are mostly chemicals , with specific pickups and deliveries. Unless something happens , I'm usually there a little early. And most of those times , I sit there until the appointment time. Gives me a chance to do other things , like this.
As for hauling *ss to get there , I'm on electronic logs . I already catch h**l if I go 3 MPH over the "company speed limit " . And it's my truck !
Besides , I buy the fuel. And , yea , I pay attention to the weather. I've been doing this for awhile. Sometimes that's why I'm catching heck over my speed .
Its doggone difficult to be able to do 75 , like in Texas , and instead keep that steady 68 , but then I think about my wallet , and how much lighter it will be , if I give in to that little temptation.
Yea , there's plenty of places I could lease onto , who wouldn't care about how fast I drive , long as I keep my nose clean .
Don't know of any that pay as well as what I'm making now , for that extra 7 MPH to be worth it.
Nor of any that will tell me to park it , when the snow flies , rather than chance it with that expensive load , and trailer.
