By "Real" numbers he means the ones he made up.

I can offer these real numbers from my own history. I started in 1999 at Roehl transport. I believe I started at .28 per mile then(I think they start at 30 now but am not sure.) Milage rate increased by.04 after the first year an went up .01 per after that. There were one or two bumps to the rate during my tenure to offset the new HOS regs.
Anyway my first year I earned around 41k working on an out out 11 being off 3. Not the best schedule to be sure but manageable. My last three or four years I made 70k+usuallu working schdules where I was gone three weeks then took a week at home. Again not normal to be sure but it was what worked best for me and my family. During this entire time my wife was able to stay home with my son and athen also with the children we were able to adopt.

Not sure what I spent on food but am sure it never was over a hundred dollars. Two thousand mile weeks usually only entered my picture when that week involved coming home or leaving. Sure there were a few lemon weeks over the years but I tried to turn them into sight seeing opportunities.

During my time spent as a driver trainer I got a real eye opener as to the cause of much of the turnover. I was amazed by the sheer number of folks that hopped into my truck that had no idea what they were getting themselves into. People made comments like "I didn't realize there would be so much driving involved" or "I thought we would be getting getting hotels and only use the bunk as an emergency".

I don't claim to have all the answers but I do know that laying around feeling sorry for ones self will not yield a positive result.

real numbers for exp drivers ......

11 days out and 3 home.....

    .30(avg) x 2500 miles (week)(if real lucky today) = 750.00

    -100.00 weekly food expence

    750.00 - 22%(taxes) = 585.00 (net)

    585.00 - 100.00(maybe more)= 485.00 weekly for 7 days 24/7

    485.00 / 7 =69.28 daily

exp. drivers are doing great too....lmfao

    lets see this picture.....

5 days a week home every night....

    40 hours x 15.00 = 600.00
    15 OT x 22.50 = 337.00

    600+225.00 = 937.00

    road expence = 000000

    937.00 x 22%= 730.86 bring home in 5 days at 11 hours

    730.86 / 5 = 146.17 daily

I dont think it is about "ROSE COLORED GLASSES" I think it is what we make of it. I would rather enjoy the day then too sit and whine about everything. Seems to me if it is so bad some of you will be handing in your 2 weeks notice today?? Thier paying for my school, putting me in a FREE hotel, ###### as it may be, free it is. And giving me 26 CPM and 34 at the end of my first year. So they would spend all this so I will wnat to quit? I spent 11 years in the military, 13 in a casino by the way,lol and now unemployed. So whatever i wind up making is beter then where i am right now. I have a friend with Crete who I talk too two or three times a day, he tells me it is not the best right now, but better then what people are saying. Does he make 3000 miles a week, no not all the time. But 2500 a week is'nt too bad either.Or 2000, for that matter. 600000 people that were making money last month are making ZERO right now So many people saying trucking is so bad yet they stay why is that? Not too much going on outside of trucking!!! Thier is a CMART here in Farmington that just called today, for about 7 bucks a hour, so I should take that and run with it huh? Or get paid to see the GREASTEST country in the world, and have no rent and not much for bills. Let me ponder that a bit,lol not really. Trust me thier is nothing out here that can give me that right now. You should be happy to ahve a job, millions don't!!! I'm wiht MO family man, going to jump on the bike and come back and read more posts. Hope someone answers my first question WHAT else should ii study? Where can i find the paperwork that goes with trucking, would like to read up on that, cant study the CDL anymore,lol... Thanks for ALL the comments positive or negetive. LIFE is too short enjoy what you have TODAY.. And before anyone comments about my spelling, I'm with MO family man "Bad spellers of the world...UNTIE!!!lol thanks, Fiore

Fantasy? ever been in the military working 18 hours a day 7 days a week? Thats work! I have no alusions (or spelling skills, lol) I don't think it wil be all good, but NOTHING in life is, and millions of OUT of work people will say the same thing. Seems to me your not happy, so why do you stay if the grass is greener, outside of trucking? Seems to me you've been in it too long and have done nothing else except drive for 21 years. So you really cant understand how GOOD you realy have it. How many people have a chance to go to diffrenent companys right now? How many people have jobs that will ALWAYSS be needed? I've seen some of your post and feel sorry for you, it seems like you have nothing positive to say. Maybe I can call CMart and tell them you want a job? I would do it for you if I could get a smile out of you or anything you write on here. You sound like an old trucker who says I wont use a gps, i'm an oldtimer and we never used gps, how ignorant is a statement like that? Well I'm sorry your in a job that makes you so sad and something that is so negitive, hope you find something in the future that will make you happy. LIke millions of others now I will take what comes my way and try to make a positive out of it, and not be so sad about what i do.. Still waiting for the answers on paperwork and such things OTHER then CDL i will have to learn.. Fiore, ps, how was the bikeride Mo family man, what a nice day in the show me state...

I cant understand why ,when i tell the truth to people about trucking they always come Back and say '' i am not happy''..It must be my name 1POD..LOL,LOL
Actually what i have, most people would drual over truthfully..My happiness is not the point here.
The point is being a ''new'' driver in todays ''industry'' of trucking..Its not what you think or have this fantasy in your head....I am actually trying to help you but you are discouraged because i am ''challenging'' your illusion on trucking and the business. And i am telling you that it is not what you ''think'' it is..

Ok well maybe i did take it the wrong way, sorry for that. All i'm saying is that I have no illusions about anything. I started this thread like some others i started and instead of answers to my question i get negativity and oh wo is me the trucking ind sucks, well guess what the country is sucking wind riight now, as is i guess the trucking ind. But a job is bettee then no job. A trucking job is better then slinging coffee at Cmart. Like i said i have an old army buddy who has seen the same things i have over the last 30 years who works for Crete and he said as long as I bring the same attitude I had while searving this GREAT country that I will do fine after i pay my dues, which I know i will have to do. And how do you know what I think or know about the trucking IND? You assume I'm a 21 year old glossy eye kid, thinking of only the so called GREAT money in trucking? Not at all, I'm 46 been into things in the military i wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. I've seen a lot, you've seen 21 years of trucking. ANd your right maybe most people would drool over what you have, but most people would be more positive if they had it, just saying..And again you"don;t know what i think it is" The question should be why to you feel the need to be so negitive when all I ask is where i can find help on doing the paperwork required to do the job to the best of my abilities. Like i said I have study the CDL and my new company until i'm blue in the face, i want more to LEARN, not negitivity. I will still make that call to Cmart if you are still that POD,lol
