If this guy truly is with Prime, and a student, then he only has a permit. The instructor has to be sitting next to him, awake and paying attention at ALL TIMES. NEVER allowed to drive on any clock but your own.
I agree with changing trainers, but ask him to stop first, reminding him, politely I might add! That it's a safety hazard to text and drive....(DUH!) and that driving on your clock messes up you both and opens you up to a whole nasty can of worms if DoT finds out. IF he insists on continuing after this talk, THEN try for a new trainer. You don't want to risk your reputation. In ANY job industry, your reputation is the ONLY thing that goes with you for life, regardless of references, etc. It may even make someone look favorably on you for being safety conscious. I've heard some companies even reward safe drivers in one way or another. So be sure to contact the Safety Dept. and let them know this trainer is unsafe, if he continues the texting issue. They may remove him entirely from the position and save other students from the same dilemma.
I've never driven on eobr logs, how do you "sign" a log with qualcomm? I ask because I sure wouldnt sign a log where my trainer drove on my time.
If you and your trainer are signed in at the same time the elog can be changed by either person. ie...you are driving and he sits over there with qualcom he can simply change the driving status or vice versa...I've seen this and it has a lot to do with the loads they put on the trainer. You have a student not progressing and a delivery time has to met, guess what???the driver status changes, he's in sleeper berth or off duty saving time so he can deliver on time.
ok thanks for all the reply I've been on the truck 3 days and drove just over 25 hours never got to back only instruction I got was how to shift right I can harlequin the truck ok just not that confident in my ability on some things wail I took my self off the truck my life if more important to me and my family I don't know if I should reorganize it or not I'm not that kind of person but I don't want to be responsible for some one else getting hurt I think I will callsafty in the mornings went there today but no one was in due to xmas
At Prime Only one driver can be "active"'at a time. Active driver cannot be changed or access that persons log while truck is moving. Only a drive clock will be displayed. inactive driver can access his logs, can change anything but logged drive time or change themselves to active driver. the system logs truck movement only to the active drivers log so no he can't sit over there and simply change the logs
sure. id like to add that all instructors have to be logged "on duty" while the student is driving as "active driver" if not you get a QC message from the log dept every 5 minutes reminding you it's illegal. if the drive time and on duty don't match up you be conferenced call with your fleet manager to explain yourself. The only advantage I see by driving on your students clock is an advantage to getting further down the road, but it won't save any hours on either ones 70 or prevent you from having to take a 10.
If your trainer is driving on your clock and he runs a car off the road or something the company will pin it on you. The log shows you as the driver at the time and place and incident. Seeing how he texts and drives, it could happen.
here is a question what if your trainer is driving on your time and you ask him to stop and he does not what are you supposed to do then? do the company's like it when a trainee calls and complains about trainers?
