We had a guy like you once come into our school. He talked a big game. Rode with his daddy and uncle all his life. Cut his teeth turning wrenchs, drove a Pete on bis daddys farm since the age of 10. He could do anything amd everything better than anybody, including the owner of the school who had 30 years experiece before he retired.

1st day in class teachers got tired of listening to him flap his gums. They threw him in a truck and had all of us watch so he could teach us all something.

He couldn't get the truck started. Once he finally got it started he stalled 5 times getting it out of netural into 1st. That is all we needed to see. They jerked him out of the truck and gave him a lesson in humility.

Keep this in mind, as good as ypu are at something, there will always be someone better than you.

Well, troll or not, it's kind of a valid question. Can't blame them for trying, it's how you end up driving a cool truck, and not some POS the boss orders you to drive. The best way to drive a Pete, is go where Pete's are used. Gas tankers, grain haulers, cattle pots, flatbed, they all use Pete's. Freight hauler,,, Volvo's, Freightliners,, dump work, reefer,,, KW's and so on. I will agree, Petes generally draw the best drivers. I had a friend that worked for an all Pete fleet, and the drivers loved them. As soon as they got replaced by Freightliners the drivers quit, and the schmoes came in. Hope that helps.

Yes, it is a valid question. I dont disagree. But, some of the responses after the original post make me wonder. Kind of gives me flashbacks of the YouTube video of the black Pete blowing the red light and slamming into a school bus. I'd look for it and link it, but I don't have the time at the moment.

Again, I don't disagree. But, everyone starts somewhere. Even if it is a POS. I started in a single axle Ford L8000. Biggest POS I've ever laid eyes on. I know there's worse out there, I'm just not sure where. It didn't get much better until I'd been driving a while.

I've seen many, many very good drivers running Freightliners and Volvo's. I've also seen some real knuckleheads driving Pete's. Actually, around here, it's rather typical.

The truck doesn't make the driver good or bad. It's just a truck.

A Pete or KW may ATTRACT good drivers, that may be true. The same could be said for any brand though. But, having a large car doesn't make a great driver by any means

Yeah you are an average rookie, you have nothing to offer other than being a steering wheel holder for a year or more.

I had a few "experienced" drivers go through my road tests who could not find oil dip sticks, where to put coolant in, what the different engine components are (fuel filter anyone?) and could not drive the truck out of the yard with room enough to land a 747 in.

Never understood the rookie fascination with big hood, huge blind spots, and sitting on the floor.

Me personally, I enjoy driving a modern fleet freightshaker decent visibility, I even use the rear window, comes In handy when you have to blindside in off the street.

To each their own, but i could care less and prefer not to drive a big hood

Why doesn’t the OP just have his dad put him in his long hood?

    Trust issues?
