Well I'm trying to get funding through Michigan Works to go to West Michigan CDL. Michigan Works hasn't said anything about it yet, but the guy at WMCDL said thats one of the requirements. I have a meeting on Tuesday to turn in the first portion of the stuff they wanted me to do, I guess we'll see if its true or not. Either way, a pre-hire letter can't be a bad thing.

Thanks for the tip. I'd never heard that before either, but none the less i turned in 5 apps this morning. if it is a requirement, at least ill be ahead of the game. Ill let everyone know when i find out for sure if its a requirement or not. Heres to hoping my clean 3 years is enough.
critters Thanks this. -
Many companies, especially the larger carriers, ask, "Has your license ever been suspended for ANY reason?" This can be a deal-breaker for the companies that ask. Getting popped driving on a suspended license compounds the dilemma.

Yea. One thing Werner did say was that if the board decides its a no go, i might want to try again in 2 or 3 months after one of the speeding tickets drops off.

Safety Director here: I will help you on this question as I deal with this all the time.
First: BREATH....relax as getting yourself all worked up over this isn't going to help you one bit; all you will do otherwise is make rash decisions which you may regret later.
Second: as for your driving record, most insurance providers (we have the top-end insurance carrier "Great West" and they are the most difficult to get drivers insured by....they are looking at your more immediate driving record or behavior. They don't like to see preventable accidents, any drug and/or alcohol convictions within the last seven years, excessive speed (defined as 15 or over), fleeding and eluding an officer and/or accident, or any other type of serious driving violations.
Per your posting here...I can not tell what the conviction was for speeding (how fast you were going) but I defined what our insurance carrier will turn a thumb down if I submitted your driving record to them for review was. As for suspended driving...its not that big of any issue less it was tied to a serious violation as I described before.
I can not speak for all motor carriers (we have 11 trucks and growing quickly here) as each motor carrier hiring requirements are different so shop around. Talk to all the big motor carriers and some of the local (smaller) carriers in your area. Alot of smaller local carriers are willing to bend their hiring requirements or talk you up to their insurance carrier as they get to know the person behind the application. And besides...they can offer some of the best one-on-one lessons if you need it.Josiaht16 Thanks this. -

Thanks dogbreath. so i went back over my driving record today. turns out that one of the speeding tickets was for 15 over. that however will be dropping off in june, so i may have to wait until then. its not gunna stop me from trying, but i can see that may be where the problem is.

To 900,000 tons of steel:
I can not speak for any motor carrier but from my experience a motor carrier is asking to get an idea of the honesty of an applicant and also to discover some suspensions that are serious; like suspensed due to fleeding a scene of an accident, second dwi convictions, etc....all reasons for suspension in FMCSA regulations.900,000-tons-of-steel Thanks this. -
Alright well, I'm well on my way. got my 3 pre-hires, yes they are a requirement.
