Good question. That's somewhere I don't go, unless passing through and up the I-95 or I-278. I just don't do New York City or the Island. Not worth it in my book. If I had to, I'd come from the Tappan Zee or the renamed rode who's name shall not be mentioned , and head downward. I always avoided the GWB after my first two encounters with that traffic, and I preferred to always go up and over. I guess it depends on how you're coming into it. If you're from the south, you really have no choice without incurring extra miles. I was usually coming across from 80/78, but if I didn't have to deliver to New York outskirts, I always made it a point to route myself up 84 across Newgburgh to points east.

One employer tried to force me on a load into the Island, and I asked if they wanted me to clean the truck out before I left. I don't do New York, New York or the Island. Anywhere else in New York is fine, but I don't do the inner area and especially not staying overnight there.
