How does deadhead miles work for you guys on percentage? Say you have to run 800 miles empty for the next load. Do you get paid any for that?

Rob... Our % pay is based on the loaded miles. As you can see from my initial numbers, I'm averaging .443/mile for all miles turned off the odometer before adding in all of my hourly pay (which brings it up significantly), and presently running about 25% empty, which includes ALL empty miles the truck turns (even off-duty).
But no, even if I were to run empty from Washington back to Alsip I wouldn't get anything for the deadhead. However, if that did actually happen (which isn't likely), this load would still work out to roughly .43/mile for the entire trip. Which in the big scheme of things suits me fine at the end of the week when I see my check -

Thanks Rob! Yeah, a good, positive change is long overdue for me that's for sure. Ever since my first contact with Heniff I got a really good gut feeling about things and that has only strengthened with each passing day. I know that some of the younger, newer guys may be skeptical (as well as some of the older vets) of my attitude but, you and a few others know of my affinity with tanks and, I've never had a feeling like this before; not with Aartman, not with Superior, and that my friend is saying a lot!!! Only time will tell in the end, but I say I will be here and happy for a long, long time...

Here's the latest happenings in my world...
09-02 to 09-08
-Jacksonville, FL (hook clean tank) to Savannah, GA (live load)...Alsip, IL (drop loaded tank)
-Alsip, IL (hook loaded tank)...Aurora, OH (live unload)...Parker, PA (drop dirty tank)
Miles: 1,636
2012 Totals
Gross: $3,272
Hub Miles: 5,088
Avg.: .643/mile
Days Working: 16
Days Off: 5
After that week finished up, I picked up another preloaded tank at Parker and ran it down to St. Petersburg where I unloaded a couple of days ago. I was supposed to head back up to Jacksonville for my tank wash, then do the same load I did coming out of the house (load in Savannah and drop at the yard in Alsip). However, things changed and this load popped up which means that this week will be a short one pay-wise but, this load alone will make up for it and then some! I'm now sitting in Carrollton, GA finally getting loaded after a 3-hour delay due to the shipper's lab, which kept failing the product samples, and I will probably won't finish loading for another couple hours or so. All I've got to say is cha-ching! Then on top of it all I'll unload asap next week in Washington State, followed by a reload still yet to be determined from where going to wherever. Y'all be safe, more later!

Skywalker is a very good friend of mine, and we go back over ten years together when we both drove at CTL. I hold him in the highest regard and have the utmost respect for him. He gave me countless, indispensable advise through the many years we've known each other. I have no regret or hesitation saying that I look up to him as a father figure...
