Since I'm just flexboard scum, what I say probably doesn't have much merit, but I will say this. You and I wear the same uniform and do the same work. Perhaps, if you viewed your co-workers as equals, you'd have a better go there. So you whine because no one just hands you a via and sends you back to your SIC?FAC? Yea, we all want that when we work linehaul, but we know it doesn't always happen. Someone brought up start times too. How about the other thread where you post about how you need to just look busy and find some dockwork to do? Just so you know, my badge says I started in 2011 working for Conway, doesn't matter that it was Truckload, still have my same employee number even; Ive earned some time here regardless. I've seen your type; you cherry pick your freight off a few breaker trailers, dock the rest and get your load and go home. I've also been to your FAC when I was at Truckload, and many more all over the country, probably been to more than you. My guess is your attitude and view of fellow employees is what keeps you on the dock, not your employer.

New Guy

I'm on the extraboard at FXF (my choice. I bid it). Luckily I get longer runs so I don't have to wrk the dock too often. When I do go on a run that requires dock work you fall into what ever slot the run you are subbing for falls into.
If I am subbing for the #4 driver on a particular run, then the #1,2, &3 drivers will all be offered the via's or the opportunity to leave before me even if I have more seniority than they have. It's not a big issue as you know the rules going in. And of course the drivers on the shorted runs from the hub are always the last to get off the dock as the have the latest gete times anyway. Seems like a pretty fair way to do it to me.
I'm having difficulty understand how Conway works from what I'm reading here. Is it by total seniority regardless of bid run?Last edited: Oct 13, 2013

Congrats also....I've been driving for the last 9 months...what are the qualifications to work for Conway? I have other drive time years ago when I was in the military but none of that is verifiable. Anyone else feel free to chime in and any advise welcome. I'm looking to be home weekends and nightly would be great but I'm very flexible. Thx!

It's a very good driving job. Some terminals aren't as good as others but overall it's a very good place to work. Money is very good and nowadays the equipment is too. Just do your job and stay away from the the break room heroes and you'll be fine. I've been doing it for over 10 years now and even if I have a bad day I'm home that day and paid well for it.

Qualifications are relatively standard. Right off their website
Possess and maintain a valid Class A Commercial driver's license.
- Hazardous materials endorsement required.
- Doubles/Triples endorsement required.
- Tank Vehicle (Tankers)
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Forklift experience preferred.
- Safe driving record and history.
- Pass DOT drug test and have no prior positive tests or refusals.
- Pass a company paid DOT physical.
- Pass a company paid Post Offer Pre-Hire screen (physical essential functions) test.
I also had military experience and swift driving school and 8 months otr. just apply and wait.
Jakebrake sound advice thanks.
also they no longer use HireRight for their backgrounds they use verifications inc. I have heard horror stories about HireRight and having to fax them w-4's or proving employment by other means. I guess I will see soon enough if this new company is any better.Last edited: Oct 14, 2013

Funny, drivers don't even work the dock at OD, as a general rule. A couple of the P&D guys load their own trailers in the morning but that's about it.

I'm extraboard with FXF(by choice). It's provides a rally good living. Although it probably depends on the company and even the terminal within a company. Extraboard at a hub seems to be a much riskier proposition. -
