Usually a good indicator if the primer is sucking air is if the pump body is actually wet with fuel. Fuel leaks out then air gets sucked in.

That's whats weird, there was no external leaking at all. This one is the first one anybody i know has seen. The pump was whirring away, but to no avail. Looking back, i always thought it was weird that the pump never "lugged" down like it was building pressure. I mentioned it to the techs working on it but nobody else thought twice about it. Now i know what it SHOULD sound like, and its obvious when it doesnt work.
Heavyd Thanks this. -
I have a 2013 KW isx15 Cummins engine and it won't start. It just cranks and cranks and cranks but no go. I've used starter fluid to see if it will start but no go. Why won't it turn over? Why won't it start? What could it be....please any help will help

Sounds like what our 2008 does if the batteries are a touch low. The fuel pump needs FULL batteries or it won't pump fuel. Put a charger on it. -
My ISX gets airbound on every single fule filter change. Every single time for the past 4 years I bought this truck. I have noticed that when I am at a Peterbilt or a TA/Petro, the techs will hook up one of those hand pump cans of fuel and hook it up to the compucheck fitting over the fuel filters. They would pump several times and would try cranking for a few seconds. It would take them about 4 or 5 times of pumping while I tried cranking. It would then start.
Disclaimer: Im not a mechanic just an owner of my own equipment.
The pics below show you the compucheck fitting. I don't own one of those hand pumps so I just took off the fitting and using a dry sports bottle filled with fuel and squeezed fuel into this hole. Closed it, tried cranking, repeated 4 times and it started. Oh the compucheck fitting may have a red rubber cap on it, so you may not be able to find it right away.rank Thanks this. -
That is how you prime the present day Diesel engine
