WOW!!! $5000, $17,000, $25,000, $500,000.00 fines!! I'm surprised the DOT is closing the bridge. It's a fantastic source for revenue. The driver did admit he paused before he decided to take a chance, so he realized he was taking a gamble before going across. The elderly couple stated there were a couple of prior warning signs. There but for the grace, I hope I shall not make that $17,000!!!??? mistake. By the way, that wasn't Dick Jone's first trainee.........was it?

Anyone know off hand what the empty weight of a tractor-trailer combo is? Near 15 tons? Doh!

Actually the empty weight is beyond 15 tons for most trucks. I'm 16 tons running empty

Not true I had to call the cops in RI the other day to block an intersection so I could back out into it after I followed the spacific directions from the customer as to how to legally get in there with a truck...2 cops showed up in less then 4 minutes and blocked the intersection and not only that but 1 of them was nice enough to give me a blue light escort all the way to the receiver....

I wish they would put up the signs well in advance so a driver has a chance to turn around. I come across to many places where the signs are just before the banned road with no chance to turn. So what happens now? You have to roll the dice and hope for the best.

you know what i do when i'm not sure? stop, call boss/manager/dispatch, ask them what to do. the way i see it, if i'm working for a company and come across any sort of situation that may or may not cost the company money, time, or problems then i call them. its not my truck and its not my business's so if i'm not 100%, i make a call. and put it on someone else. as far as things that can flat out jeopardize my license then F it. if i came up to a road like that and was driving tractor trailers, i'd call the cops and then dispatch or whoever is in charge and let them know the situation.

Getting to the foot of that bridge may be a newbie mistake.

Crossing it was just stupid. His statement on camera seems to match the nonsensical thought process that would lead to someone ignoring that sign.

"I was just pondering to make sure that, you know, weighing the judgements and all that, and I couldn't fathom them calling that the Illinois-Kentucky bridge"
