As for the old-timer: if he's as unsafe as he's claimed to be (drugging out to keep going), then he SHOULD NOT be driving, because he's a hazard and a menace to everyone around him.
If he's clean and safe, however: more power to him, and I stand corrected.
My point, however, stands: unsafe drivers should NOT be allowed to drive. Too many have gotten away with it for far too long (and this applies to 4-wheeler's drivers, too), and it needs to change.
You make fun of me being a school bus driver; but the fact is my cargo was far more precious that ANYTHING you have ever hauled, and I've had that fact hammered into my head from day one--not that I needed much encouragement on that score, I've been a safety nazi most of my adult life, because PEOPLE MATTER.
Driving anything is a privilege, a big rig even moreso. And it MUST be earned.
If you feel I'm a "fraud", rank, well, you're entitled to your opinion. But just because you have a few thousand miles under your butt in a tractor doesn't mean you're any better than any other rookie, and you've certainly done little to earn my piddly respect. But you go ahead an act like your poop don't stink, and we'll look forward to your thread bemoaning your incarceration when you run over a school bus full of kids. -
Canada is much like the US in that they don't have the same space crunch that Europe and the UK do. -
I just want people to LIVE, and have decent working conditions, what's wrong with hoping drivers can get treated and paid better?? Or, even better, trying to work toward making conditions better, if only by offering a different way of looking at and thinking about things?? If that's wrong in your mind, then I hope I can change it; and failing that, I hope I can prevent your negativism from infecting my mind, or anyone else's.
And, yes, I'm a "wannabe", and looking forward to the challenge. -

Lux Prometheus Thanks this. -
Decades ago, we had lead based paint, didn't wear bicycle helmets, no child seats in cars...etc. The stupid kids got lead poisoning, cracked their skull riding a bicycle over a cliff or killed themselves in an automobile. It's supposed to happen. Protects the herd. Somewhere along the line someone thought it tragic when Stupid got killed, so they thought up a way to try to prevent Dummy from doing the same thing. 3decades later, you have the brain dead general public. Now instead of the village idiot drowning because he was looking up in the sky while it was raining, he grows up and produces offspring with Dummy's daughter. She refers to the village idiot as either 'her man' or her "Third Baby's Daddy."
King Leonitus would have had all the stupid Spartan Kinda thrown off the cliff, but our government tells them that they can be "professional truck drivers", make a lot of money, and be well respected. So they put the losers of society who can't do anything right in a commercial vehicle, and give him brain dead regulations to follow. Sounds safe to me!
"Trucks use the 2 right lanes. Sure, all the cars have to get on from the right, cut across 2 lanes of trucks to get on, and then cut across 2 lanes of trucks to exit. 'Population control'? -
You know nothing.pattyj Thanks this. -
One thing we all agree on is don't drive tired, but why should the entire industry be the victims of all the laws because of some?I have been driving since 2002 and never have I got into one accident and only received 2 tickets in my entire life my csa is spotless and no log violations,so why should I take the heat for the idiots that do drive tired? What im seeing from all your posts is you're labeling all the trk drivers on this thread as bad drivers. You sir have no clue what these drivers are like. You're not any different then what the public perceives truck drivers as.I really hope you never join the trucking industry because you'll never make it with this attitude.
Mudguppy Thanks this. -
Why should I listen to anything you say? What qualifications do you possess that allow you to pass these judgments? You're obviously here to troll for responses, not to add anything constructive to the discussion."semi" retired, rank, pattyj and 2 others Thank this. -
Whats bad is everyone working for FMCSA and the public share the same views as Lux does but have no clue about the industry except from some testing program that has proven time and time again how flawed their laws are.
rank, Boardhauler and Lux Prometheus Thank this.
