    Hello all!

I found this forum a few days ago in search for some insight on the trucking business. I have always been interested in becoming some sort of truck driver, and my own influence comes from my father being an O/O.

    My history:
I have two AAS degrees, which are "Machine Tool and Die" and "Network Administration." I have always been interested in Tool and Die and Computers/Networks, hence the degrees.. Started out in Tool and Die and all I really enjoyed was CNC machining. Got a job CNC machining while I was in school for T&D, but ended up not liking the company in general. I will always have a heart for CNC machining though.. Finished T&D and moved on.

Went to school for Network Administration and excelled in my classes. Thought this would be what I would do for the rest of my life...

    The now:
I work in the IT industry and it has been under a year so far, but I am having an issue with my supervisor. We seem to butt heads all the time. I do my job, and I do it well. I keep to myself unless I am called upon for some help, I do everything I can to make life at work better, and I have a positive attitude while I am at work. It seems like my supervisor pin-pointed me from the very beginning :smt064 and the supervisor only looks for the negative crap. I never hear a positive remark from this person. And, this person analyzes everything that is said a little too much! Supervisor takes things personal and this person brings in way too much emotion to perform his/her job effectively. I think I might just get on out of here before things go bad.. I'm looking for jobs everyday.. but nothing of interest is showing up :biggrin_2553:

    Future:
My father owns a trucking business (O/O OTR), and he's been trucking for over 20 years. He has been contemplating whether or not he wants to get into the Frac Sand business or not. He will be talking to a former business partner to see what options are available and what-not.

He would be adding on at least two experienced drivers, and possibly, a third truck if I want to pursue this line of work. However, he's not sure if this will happen or not. He also said that I would drive a "Day" truck driving locally, because he doesn't want me to do OTR. Heck, he always tried to steer me away from the trucking business. But, things are not looking up right now, and I need a more stable position.

However, if it does happen I will go and get my CDL at a local tech school. The school has a 8 week program for CDL training, and from what I have read on the forum so far, 8 weeks is longer than most other schools have had.. So, this must be a good one.

Anyone have experience in the Frac sand business?

Thank you all for reading my post! Can't wait to learn more about the trucking industry :biggrin_25519:

Welcome to TTR. You're fortunate to have an inroad into the trucking business that most new entrants don't have. There are several threads about the frac sand business, as well as other opportunities related to the booming energy sector. Just do a search and you'll find plenty of reading. Good luck.

Thank you for the post! I am grateful for the opportunity that I "may" have. I understand how hard it is to grab a good trucking job, and this is something I wouldn't pass up.

So far, all of the threads that I have read have to do with O/O OTR sand hauling. Hope to find some local sand hauling threads.

If my dad gets the green light for the addition to his business, I am signing myself up to get my CDL. And, best of all, this would be a trucking job that has me home every night! Doing something I would love, and able to grow with the family would be great!

However, it would be a 30 year contract, so I am assuming there would be job security involved. I would have to have a plan B though if anything were to happen, or the contract ended. Maybe do OTR driving.. The kids "should" be all grown up by then.. :biggrin_25525:

    Edit:
After reading the "Ask an O/O thread".. I have a better understanding of all the crap he goes through! He rarely talks about what goes on out there.. I think I understand why.. Haha. When I was younger I spent about 7 or so summer seasons in the passenger seat with him. But, at the time, it seemed like a vacation on the road.. Not work.. Lol

    Thank you all for reading!
