Hey everybody, my first post here. Well I'm 41 and sort of kicking myself for not getting my CDL like 20 years ago. I plan on getting ahold of Millis soon and talking to them about getting my CDL with them down in Cartersville, even though I live in Ohio. Hopefully that will fly with them, my Dad's house is ~10 minutes from their terminal there, how perfect would that be to just crash at his place for a few weeks.

A few years out of high school one of my best friends got his CDL and went otr, he took me out for "a week or so"... yeah right! We rolled back into town just shy of a month later! So I haven't driven but I know what I'm getting into here. No wife, no kids, no house just renting an apartment until a lease is up, then things go into storage and I stay out there. At least that's the plan, plus visiting my parents once a month or so back and forth between Pittsburgh and Cartersville, I figure that will be my "home" time.

So hi again, been reading the Millis otr thread and everything else I can find, some great info on here. And watching Trucker Josh daily lol!

Good luck to your new venture.

  6. Be ready for all the miles you can drive while you're with your trainer...As soon as you get your own truck the miles fall off! Sad but true. Get your 1 year experience and roll out!

Well that sounds promising lol! That may be the first negative thing I've heard about Millis. Not being able to find anyone trash talking them is why I'm going to them. That's if I can get through recruiting. Their page is a little screwy, the full application seems to be hidden behind the "benefits" tab for some reason and recruiting wasn't able to help much yesterday. It's filled out and submitted now, they told me to call them back after that was done so we'll see

  8. Yeah, I've found a few lies along my journey and like you, I couldn't find a negative word about them. Don't get me wrong; they are a good company. But here's how it breaks down:
•You either get good pay and no miles
    • Or you get lots of miles and low pay

Millis gives you good pay, just not a lot of miles.

I have a start date with Millis for July 29th in Cartersville! Working out the last month of a machine shop job now, will NOT be missing CNC plasma cutting and carrying steel parts for a living, that's for sure

Good luck. My time there was very positive.
If you ever go regional and get Tom as a dispatcher try not to call him on the phone. He gets a little cranky. LOL.
He's also one of the best dispatches out there. (Smiley face here)

Millis is a decent outfit and pay well for a rookie.
Unfortunately, the miles will vary from week to week.
They do have issues finding loads out of Cartersville, I had seen waits as high as 26 trucks in front of you..
