    To a degree you are Correct but this will vary wildly depending on the Cam and the Nozzle. so simply changing the Cam without addressing the Nozzle will do what to Internal Pressure rise? I guess we could ramp it up till we split the tip clean Open???? Or we could use the injector design and ECM to control this. Its not hard to do Lenny. Infact the Injector design is to try and produce as close to a constant pressure without Common Rail.


    The Basic function of the Trim is to compensate for the Variability of manufacture defects and without it you would not have 6 injectors the same.

    To lengthen the Duration is simple but unfortunately there is a LOT more to these Cat injectors than Stretching the Wave form. If it was as simple as that Lenny every man and his Dog would be doing it. You can just use the Cave man approach and lengthen Duration and whack in 4242.. 5232 etc etc.. Personally I wish it was all that simple!!!

    This is a BASIC POP Test and a STD procedure for any injector service Cat or other brands.
    I have seen these Vids on another forum however I dont know the person who made them.

    More agressive ramp raises injection pressure. Yes, at some point the injector will break. That's why different nozzles are used with different cams. Cat ECM is not fast enough to control anything but opening and closing point. Pre-injection only at low rpm.




    Only thing you can do is to do the same as some of the Detroit guys are doing, trim down and equal the solenoid height. That lengthens the opening time "mechanically" and also advances timing a little bit.

    Why do every Cat man thinks that Cat injectors or engines in general are different than any other similar engine and nothing that applys to other engines doesn't apply to Cats?

    Lenny I'll give ya something to think about

    The FLS is an adjustable power setting in the ECM used by CAT to alter the fuel rate in GPH this has a numerical setting that ranges from -127 to 127 including 0

    The FTS is an adjustable torque setting in the ECM that has the same numerical values set to it also -127 to 127 including 0

    now my thinking is

    255 x 255 = 65,025 possible combinations of the FLS/FTS settings in an ECM

    ####, how many different fuel tables do ya think CAT can write into a 256KB size file?

    Because CAT has 65,025 FLS/FTS setting that neither Cummins or Detroit has
