I want to thank you for your posts about Con-Way. It is obvious that you really enjoy driving for them. I am hoping I can bug you for some of your expertise.
I live in IL within about 20 minutes of the LaSalle terminal. I see that Con-Way has openings both for a LTL Driver and a Driver apprentice from that location. I have an opportunity to take the truck driving course through the local Community College (also in LaSalle) starting 4/18. The course lasts 4 weeks and you come out with a CDL/HazMat/Doubles endorsements.
Would it be smarter for me to take the course and try to get a driver job out of the gate or to apply for the apprentice position and go through the Con-Way training program?
I appreciate and value your opinion on this subject.
Thanks again.
Hey jakebrake12---I'd like your input

I wish I could give you an answer but I'm really not sure. I had some previous OTR experience when I started here so I'm not sure what the best route is.
The driver doing the program right now would be the person to ask.
Wish I could help you more but I really have no clue. All I can tell anyone with certainty is how the day to day operations work here. -
honestly if u want to work for con-way do the apprentice program, u dont have to pay for it unless u quit before a year of employment. friend of mine is in the class and we went throw a truck driving school but they r makin him take the class for them n e ways. i have my license but no exp. and the same with my friend and we r both in the class. i just finished my first week and will be udating my thread on the class
