The economy is still trashed. Continue on pursuing trucking.
Maybe join the military. You can get a cdl and drive trucks in the US Navy.
SEABEES - United States Navy
Seabees are Navy construction specialists who build, fight and recover from disasters. Learn about their organization, training, missions.
After a year you can volunteer for diving school and Underwater Construction Teams. If that doesn't interest you, then just stick to driving Seabee construction trucks.Numb Thanks this. -
Okay, welcome aboard, and you got Chinatown in "high range", I don't think military is necessary. Trouble is, in this industry, the ins. companies call the shots, and you have little chance to defend yourself. Now I'm not crying for the ins. companies, but they have swanky lifestyles to uphold, and these multi truck pileups, imagine the payout. So ANY infraction becomes a red flag. Not sure what you did for trucking, but not many that got as far as you did, are willing to huck beer cases and a college grad doesn't want to drive a garbage truck. I totally hear ya'.. Thing is, there are trucking companies flying below the radar that would hire you, but I question how stable they are. Not sure what to say, the industry is cutting their own throats with stringent rules, a lot of good drivers are getting the shaft. Best of luck, keep us posted, eh?Chinatown Thanks this.

Two other sites you can look for driver jobs.
Craigslist & Facebook both have pages advertising for drivers. Some 1099 Chicago outfits probably hire you and they'll be on those two websites.Last edited: Dec 10, 2024

What is absolutely true about trucking, you either will love it or hate it. There is no in between really. It isn't a tourists job though.

This reminds me of a story an instructor at the "6-week miracle" trucking school I went to told. A former student came back to see him a couple of months after graduating, because he hadn't yet found a job. "Do you have a record?" he asked. Yes, the guy DID have a record. "What were you convicted of?" "Grand Theft for stealing a tractor-trailer with a load"..........
tscottme Thanks this. -
You have a college degree? What did you major in? Why don't you pursue a career in your field of education? Maybe let some time pass? Trucking will still be a thing in the future.
