This seems to be the industry standard. The only fast track to a driving career is to train, work for a starter company, get some experience and then decide if you want local, regional or OTR.

The insurance and the big companies seem to dictate how it's done. Same thing if you've been out of the industry for several years, most want to retrain you even if you have several years experience.

It's a little different in specialized hauling than the general trucking jobs. OTR experience is a plus but a lot of times not a deal breaker. My company wants local tanker gasoline deliveries first above all other experience. You need to get out and talk with the compannies that do the long stuff and let them know what you've been doing. If the jobs line up except for the distance you may have a shot. Whatever you do, do not quit your job until you have a better one to go to.

    BigJohn54 and Heavyhaulsteve Thank this.
