Hi everyone, I have been reading these forums for around 2 months, and I have learned alot about this industry here. Many questions I have as a newbie have been answered By members. I just received a class A CDL Tuesday 8-7-2012. I feel lucky to have gotten a job locally driving, I have asked many questions and want to make the right decisions when It comes to my new driving career. The people I work for now are great, a very small operation which is what I was looking for to start. I hesitate to go with a major carrier because many drivers I have spoken too, and the popular opinion here Is that they take advantage of newbies.I'm trying very hard to educate myself, and take very good care of my CDL. Untill then this small company I am working for Is just great, good $$, good people, and I'm home in the evening, although I went to school to get a class A to become an OTR driver this is what I have always wanted to do. Hearing some stories I've heard (CR England *cough cough*) I feel good about the path I have chosen to "ease" into trucking.

Congrats! It sounds like you've done your homework. Not many do or get trapped with lies and false promises. Just remember local experience doesn't qualify towards OTR experience if you ever decide to try it. Unless you go with a small outfit like you do now.

Good luck with the new career! Always respect that CDL. :)
