Hello all, usernames plynnjr95 and I'd like to become a truck driver. My uncle used to drive for Swift several years back, and I was always curious about the industry. I've done a good amount of research, understanding how difficult this profession can be. However I like how you can see the rest of the country and run your own schedule for the most part.

The one thing left I need to do is choose a CDL school. I'm on the fence between Roadmaster in Fontana and United Truck School in Riverside. If anyone could recommend which one is better, I'd appreciate it. :)

You're 20 yrs. old, will you be 21 when you graduate? If so, start looking for companies that hire at age 21 for OTR & there are several. Enjoy your new career & profession.

I plan to start going to trucking school around the middle of next month. I'll be 4 months from turning 21 by then, but if I can find a job with my CDL license working in CA I'll take it.

Shouldn't have any problem working just in CA with food service companies & they also pay very well. Greatwide is just one of many; check Careerbuilder website for more. Maybe start a new thread asking about food service companies and tanker companies also. Hauling fuel pays over $60K per year and more & much easier than food service.

I've read about fuel service and food service. Both of them pay very well but food service is more of a physically demanding job. Hauling drinks like the Pepsi and Gatorade trucks would be a nice compromise too as those trucks are hardly the size of a Cascadia with a 53 footer.
