Hello hello, I'm new to being a contributing member of this forum but I've been lurking for a while!
I'm technically from Minnesota, but I live on the road for 3-4 months and only go back "home" for a week or two in between. Been to all lower 48, but I've spent the most time in the Midwest and on the East Coast.
I've been driving OTR as a company driver for about 3.5 years now, which realistically means I'm still kinda new. I've driven primarily reefer, but have done some dry van. Been in a Volvo, a couple Freightliners, and a Mack, don't ask me which I prefer because I love and hate things about all of them!
I joined the forums mostly because I'm looking for a new company to drive for, since mine is not really giving me what I'm looking for. Figure I'm more likely to find a good fit if I ask other drivers for their input and experiences. I'm just tired of 500-700 mile runs, if I wanted that I'd have gotten a job doing regional lol. Give me a good long run and I'm happy as a clam.
Not much else to say about myself I guess, I've got a German Shepherd so my hobby is basically just getting her exercised whenever I'm not driving!
Hope anyone reading this is having a great day, thanks for listening to my yapping!

Welcome aboard, and we're all about yapping on this bus. I'm from Wisconsin and more freight moves out of your area than most others, you are in the right place. We have a resident recruiter( turned doctor wannabe
) named Chinatown, and he can steer you in whatever direction you want. Once started, he'll post a dozen great companies that would kill for a driver like you. Experience you have is a huge plus. A lot of reefers still comes out of Wisconsin, and you should have no problem getting on with a company with large cars. Badger State Western out of Abbotsford, ( all new KWhoppers) is a good company, does a lot to the west coast and Green Bay or Fox Valley, I'm sure you are familiar with. Keep us posted, it's not that we're nosy, um, just want to help. Good luck.
Puppage Thanks this. -
How important is pay per mile to you? Holland, up in Fargo, has probably the longest length of haul and treats drivers pretty well from what I’ve heard. The pay per mile is a little low IMO, but I’d say it comes out about the same as most places per hour when you factor in unpaid dock hours doing 5-700 mile runs.
Most of the upper Midwest meat haulers have a decent amount of long runs mixed in, but gonna be dealing with overnight 300 mile runs as well, courtesy of Tyson.
