I've done many, many HID retrofits in cars, trucks, atv's and bikes.

The light output next to an incandescent bulb is no comparison.

Like S M D said, the 55w kits get plenty hot. They also should be powered directly with a relay instead of factory wiring. Some headlight housings can warp and lenses change color from the high temperature. I'm not saying this is necessarily a common thing, just a possibility.

I personally am not a fan of 6000k. It looks neat but the pure white off a 5000k bulb is more comfortable on my eyes. If you prefer to mimic a halogen bulb you can go 4300k. If you want yellow like a foglight you can go 3000k.

About bulbs; the Chinese ones tend to vary in color. The best bulbs are made by Philips and have a price to match.

Philips and Hella make the best ballasts. The Morimoto ballasts appear to be a nice middle ground and then you have the cheap Chinese eBay stuff. I have used a few Eagle Eye kits as well doing conversions on bikes and quads for their ease of installation. Can't say i've ever had one of those kits fail on me. I ride a sport quad and have had two serious wrecks in the past 5 years; my HID still works perfectly, not so much as a flicker.

About cutoff; since you mention you have projector housings you'll have a nice even cutoff without light spilling all over the place and shouldn't blind people. Doing a retrofit on a reflector housing is where things tend to get messy.

In the end, if I were you and that were my rig i'd be installing a set of Morimoto 35w ballasts, Philips 5000k bulbs and wiring everything up via relay with inline fuses on the hot wires.

Just my $.02 worth... I'd opt more for a warmer color temperature, e.g., 3000 - 4000. The yellow does better in fog than white.
