It happens and its really not that big of a deal.Next time you find a board keep it for when this happens again. You lift the fifth put the board under it drop your air bags and make sure the fifthwheel is lower then the king pin then pull forward. Its always nice having someone there to help you.But truckon is right, get out and look.Back close to trl but not directly under it till you goal to make sure itll hook.

I used a pop can when I did it my first month of driving. Sometimes you can get luck and empty your airbags also. This was not an option for me at the time, cause my tractor had no switch to empty them

Get out and look before you completely back into it.
Some trucks don't have an air bag dump. Our ProStar doesn't. When I made the mistake, I was lucky. I had a mechanic near by. He got under the truck and manually dumped the air bags.
I've never made that mistake again. Sometimes I'll get out 3 or more times. -

Sounds like you may have been way off center and lifted the trailer by the kingpin.
There is no other way to lift the trailer while backing, if it wasn't at the proper height.
Pay more attention from now on, and GOAL!!!JReding Thanks this.
