High idle on a Cascadia Smartshift

    If it idles I wouldn't worry. If it shuts off I would have lone mountain hook it up and change the setting. If they don't have the computer you may have to go to freightliner and see what they charge. Maybe $100?

    Ok. Thanks. I do have an apu on it that works pretty good. Expect in the 118 degree heat in Arizona! It struggles to keep the truck cool in that heat, so I'm idling as I type this. Which is why I'm asking this question

    I think Detroit recommends to idle at 900 rpm. It I leave mine on for a/c (rarely) I leave the engine fan on to save wear and tear on the fan hub.

    Leaving a diesel idling in low temps is bad due to the fact the temperature in the combustion chamber drops low enough that the diesel won't burn as completely and the engine begins to slobber. I like to leave trucks running around 1000-1200 rpm. I've seen one truck that was left idling for a couple days and it took the engine out. C12 Cat takes about 10 gallons of oil and I got about 20-22 gallons of oil/fuel mix out of the pan. Destroyed everything in the engine from mains to liners and pistons. Winter where I'm at regularly hits 30 to 45 below so trucks have to stay running or you'll never get it started without heaters and tarps.

    Just guessing because you didn't say, but if it has the clean idle sticker, it probably won't set at 900. Some of our former tractors with 60 Series were also that way

    I don't have the sticker and mine used to set higher, but now it won't set over 1000. I'm thinking the PTO setting was disabled during a service.

    Wish the one I have had a fan switch just for the noise factor.

    I had the same issue when I bought my truck, all you have to do is have the dealer put it on the laptop and change the perimeters for you.
