if its idling itself up its doing it for a reason just let it do its thing. its not going to hurt anything to idle at 1000 rpms.
High rpms during extended idling.

mechanics would have a lot less to do if more drivers knew about the trucks they drive.
Hegemeister, AModelCat, Cam Roberts and 1 other person Thank this. -
Soon as I park anywhere, regardless if I’m switching a trailer or whatever and if the truck is gonna idle for a few minutes, the manual fan comes on and I kick up the idle rpms enough to give me 60 oil psi, period. Did it back in the days of the Detroit’s, 8V71 has a switch when activated it would kick up due to low oil pressure when idling, 12V71 had a similar one. My first cummins BC1 didn’t have one so i hardly let it idle unless necessary. My first E-Model Cat was a no brainer. I would kick up before I even found out Cat required it. It’s all common senses stuff. If I was to own one of these new piece of junk engines, I would do the same thing, kick up the idle enough. Like mention before , keeps from loading up the injectors.
Cam Roberts Thanks this.
