highbeams or lights out?

I much prefer on/off, particularly at nigh, but I figure, either way, the driver I'm passing is doing something, so he deserves a thank you. It's a courtesy and I recognized it as such, but still knew where my trailer was.

Fog lights, now, the idiots that run those constantly need to get their act together.

What's up with that?
I could never figure out why a driver would be running fog lights in clear weather when visibility is no problem --- other than it's dark out. And what's worse is, when the fog lights are mounted low, usually under the front bumper (which is proper) and one of the fog lights gets knocked out of adjustment, sending a blinding beam of light skyward, and too often right into another driver's rear view mirror, or another driver's eyes when the fog lighted Big truck is going in the opposite direction.

I reckon for some drivers, fog lights are like a toy.
Look what I have.

When those drivers pass me, and want to come back over, I go out of my way to signal they've cleared me -- by hitting my HIGH beams for about 15 to 30 seconds.

Did I forget to turn my high beams off?
No, I just couldn't find the switch because I was blinded by your fog lights.

I suppose running fog lights in clear weather is just a misunderstanding on that driver's part. They're thinking the fog lights are used to FIND fog in advance, rather than to be used once fog is encountered. Once located and they're IN the fog, they probably turn the fog lights off.

Which causes to think ---- why not mount fog lights at the rear of my trailer so I can properly "thank" those who signal I've cleared them when passing by using their HIGH beams. One good deed deserves another.

When I drove for DuPont, we had aircraft landing lighs mounted in the bumpers of the trucks due to running some pretty ahhh... hairy mine roads and back roads at night.
I must confess my guilt for using those on occasion to display my displeasure at some lunkhead that thought he was cool with his fog lights. 'Course, then you have two blinded drivers barreling down the road...
